Mark Shelton received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond in 1974, where he was a scholarship athlete who started at cornerback on a Spider football team that cracked the AP top 20. He received his law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1979, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude (top 5%), was a published member of the Law Review, was a member of the Honor Court, was a member of moot court teams and earned the highest grade in the Civil Trial Advocacy Course. Mark became licensed to practice law in Texas in 1979, in Florida in 1980 and is a member of The Florida Bar, The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the U.S. Supreme Court. Other memberships include the Florida Justice Association, the American Association for Justice, Florida Windstorm Insurance Network and The Florida Circuit-Civil Mediator Society. Mr. Shelton earned his Board Certification as a Florida Civil Trial Lawyer in 1985 and kept that certification in force until 1995. In 1989 he became a Florida Certified Circuit Mediator and Arbitrator and in 2006 he became a Florida Windstorm Insurance Network Certified Umpire. Mark has earned the highest available (AV) attorney rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and is listed as a highly regarded expert in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of Law and Leading Attorneys Florida Consumer Guidebook. Since 1989 Mark Shelton has served as a mediator, arbitrator or umpire in more than 6,000 matters. After returning to his home town in 1980, Mark practiced with the Tampa firm now known as Wagner, Vaughan and McLaughlin until 1989 when he decided to open his own office in the northern suburb of Lutz where his office remains. Mark, his wife and their son reside in the New Tampa area where much of their leisure time is devoted to enjoying their son's sports, school and church activities and Mrs. Shelton serves as a team manager with the Black Watch Soccer Club. Throughout his career, Mr. Shelton has taken advantage of opportunities to publish articles, edit treatises and speak at seminars on insurance, personal injury and alternate dispute resolution topics. He has also served on committees of local and state bar associations. Mark is proud to have received a Scholar Athlete Award from the Tampa Chapter of the National Football Foundation, to be included on its Executive Committee and to have served as its President. He is equally proud to have received the Bill Wade Unsung Hero award from the All-American Football Foundation for outstanding performance in his profession. Currently Mr. Shelton is pleased to give back to the community by serving its board as President of Habitat for Humanity of Central Pasco County, the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. |
